Your Bio
In the summer of 2003 I escaped the Sacramento Valley for the Sierra Nevada foothill communities of Grass Valley, then to Nevada City. These neighboring Mother Lode towns are steeped in the gold mining history of California, stimulating my return to serious (though mostly unpaid) photography.
A thriving music scene drew me into concert photography - very different from anything I had tried before. Not only do I get to enjoy the music as much as anyone, I have the most wonderful visual experience.
I seem to be visually drawn to details. Macrophotography of local flora and fauna is an obvious example, but closeups of architectural details rather than entire Mother Lode buildings, and of faces in candid and posed portraits, extend the theme.
Equipment is the least important aspect of photographic art, but my conversion from film to digital photography when I moved in 2003 freed me to experiment, without constraint by the cost of film. With two Olympus cameras (E-1 and E-510) and several superb Oly lenses, I keep learning from the 20,000 photos I shoot every year. The cameras fit my way of thinking and seeing.
My Smugmug galleries have grown over the years, spilling way beyond their original organization. I'll slowly recategorize and rearrange them to make browsing more sensible, but don't hold your breath...
